This is a unique and sophisticated car. has a small and cute body. This is the Mini John Cooper Works concept, which previews the look of the hottest version of the new third-gen Mini. There is little about this hotted-up hatch that we shouldn't expect to see with the final production model next year - although the brushed-steel look might be left on the shelf by then.
The John Cooper Works Concept is based on the latest-generation MINI. Its origins are clearly recognisable in the longer wheelbase and wider track over the outgoing model, which has a direct effect on the car's driving characteristics. The model variants of the new MINI available from launch have already shown themselves to be more powerful, punchy and agile than their predecessors. Weight savings and improved aerodynamic properties have also contributed significantly to the new car's driving talents - and these developments likewise have a positive influence on the MINI John Cooper Works Concept.
Its bolder front fascia features larger side air intakes and dedicated air-channeling elements complemented by full LED headlamps and a black grille surround. The rear sports a unique lower apron and diffuser that work in concert with the car's prominent fixed roof spoiler. Powertrain details will be divulged during the JCW Concept’s Detroit debut, but it seems safe to assume that an upgraded version of the Cooper S’ 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four will be under the hood. If past JCW models are any indication, significant upgrades to the suspension and brakes are also in store.
